Irish coffee is a warm and comforting drink that is made with Irish whiskey, hot coffee, sugar and cream. The origins of the drink can be traced back to the 1940s in Ireland, where it was first served at Foynes Port, County Limerick. The story goes that a chef named Joe Sheridan created the drink to warm up a group of cold and tired American passengers waiting for a flying boat to take them on to New York. He added whiskey to their coffee and topped it with cream, creating a warm and comforting drink that was perfect for the chilly weather. The recipe was later brought to the United States by the journalist Stanton Delaplane and it became popular in the United States, especially in San Francisco. Today, Irish coffee is enjoyed around the world as a warm and comforting drink, particularly during the colder months.
